Interviews - Audio

June 17, 2008

Radio interviews will be added to the Home Page within the next week, and probably just below the News Section. The first one was conducted with Tom Berryman at KDTH in Dubuque, Iowa. A fun interview.

Middle School Adventure Series

June 3, 2008

I should have mentioned this sooner: For anyone with middle-school age boys who have not shown much interest in reading (and those that have shown interest), consider EXILE TO THE STARS as a major pump primer. The response of boys in this age group to the book has been amazing. Check out the review page to see what I mean.

While I did not write the book or series specifically for this age group, it has all of the features that immediately attract them: high adventure, challenge, honor, and duty. It must also be said that Jeff struggles with his relationship to women while on Earth, but finds a different atmosphere on Aketti. This is an issue of growing prominence to most middle-school aged boys. EXILE deals with the issue fairly and up front. At this very early stage I have a number of boys eager for the next book in the series, VOYAGE TO ZOMAR (Songs of Deep Green). Good reading. DM

Week ONE

May 23, 2008

The people in Dubuque were simply fantastic. The weather was great, and the EXILE release date book signings well organized. There were too many great conversations to keep track of, and many classmates came by to say hello. I almost fell out of my chair when a cousin I had not seen in years drove over to Dubuque. All told, a wonderful kick-off weekend. Thank you, Dubuque, and there's a lot more to come. Keep this date in mind, Northfielders - Wednesday, June 4th I'll be setting up shop at River City Books on division St fro a book signing at 7:00 p.m. See you there!

LAUNCH WEEK!

May 12, 2008

Everything is all set for the book signing on Friday evening 5:30-7:00 at River Lights Second Edition Bookstore at 1098 Main in Dubuque. I'm hoping there will be interest in a discussion period afterward, and then it's off to Happy's on Rockdale Rd and the Pink Cadillacs playing 50s music. Can't beat that for a great evening!

But don't forget - there will be a second book signing at Borders Books and Music in the Kennedy Mall, 2:30-4:00 p.m. A great venue for a signing.

Mississippi Museum Author's Event

April 30, 2008

Just got back from Dubuque. Had a great time at the museum. Sold some books, met a few old friends, and made some new ones. It was an interesting event from a number of viewpoints. Most of the books on display were of local interest such as historical documents about Dubuque and the Mississippi River. Also, mine was the only sci-fi book (not surprisingly, I guess), or book representing a major genre of fiction.

All told, it was a great weekend and gave me the opportunity to set things up for the book signing.

What's next?

March 14, 2008

I've had a number of questions wondering when volume II in The Alarai Chronicles series will be published. It's a bit early to be specific, but here's the general plan: Volume II in the series will be published around late spring of 2009. From then on a new book in the series will be published every 10-12 months until the seven or eight book series is finished. The title of volume II is Voyage to Zomar (songs of deep green). It will get your attention.

Authors' Day at the museum in Dubuque, IA

April 23, 2008

The National Mississippi Rive Museum & Aquarium is holding an Author's Recognition Day on Wednesday, April 23rd, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Lots of authors - over 30 - will be there as well as wine tasting and music. I'll be there and hope you will drop by to say hello. It's going to be a lot of fun.

Radio & TV Schedule

May 13, 2008

I will list radio and TV interviews in this note. The schedule will crank up in two weeks and probably continue throughout a good share of the summer. Stay Tuned for an interview in your part of the country - I hope to cover all the states.

Here are three more:

1. Thursday, June 26th Voice of America 11:05 a.m.

2. Monday morning, June 30th, Joe Mazza Show, 2:00 a.m

3. Saturday July 5th, Jordan Rich show for Boston Radio Station WBZ, 11:45 p.m.

And so it starts, and welcome to all visitors.
Remember - there are six novels to go after Exile. This is just the start.
